Originally built circa 1875 as a private brick residence facing the Buncombe Turnpike that ran along South Main Street (now Biltmore Avenue), 123 Biltmore Avenue was expanded and architecturally transformed first in 1901 as a late Queen Anne residence with an elaborate wrap-around porch, and again in the 1940’s when it became a mixed-use structure housing a veterinary clinic on the ground floor with the veterinarian’s residence above. Following its last commercial use as an antique store in the 1970’s, the building stood empty until its renovation in 2003.
Public Interest Projects, Inc. contracted to rehabilitate and sell the property to house the law offices of Northup and McConnell, PLLC. The comprehensive rehabilitation corrected major structural deficiencies, added complete new building systems, and restored the significant architectural details of the interior, including the 1901 oak paneled staircase and wainscot.
